Hubbardston Nature Club   AVIAN AWAKENING: DISCOVERING THE WILDLIFE OF NEW ENGLAND          by Bruce deGraaf                Tuesday  February 25th  7:00 p.m.     True North Holistic Center, 82 Healdville Road, Hubbardston   Are you experiencing a bit of cabin fever? Are you longing for the songs, colors, and excitement of nature in the other three seasons?  Join us as Shrewsbury wildlife photographer and author Bruce deGraaf shares his wonderful images of birds, butterflies, dragonflies, and other wildlife. If you've never seen Bruce's images, you're in for a treat.      Bruce is originally from a small town in western Michigan .  As a child he developed a passion for art, but pursued a more traditional career path, receiving degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Information and Control Engineering. Bruce subsequently worked for Chevrolet, Volkswagen, then Raytheon Company. He currently resides in Shrewsbury .     Bruce's passion for photography started while he lived in Ann Arbor , where he set up a darkroom for processing black-and-white and color prints. In 2004, after meeting Barry van Dusen, a wildlife artist who lives in Princeton , he became interested in birding and merged his new-found passion for birds with his interest in photography. Around the same time, he made the transition from film to digital format.    In December 2009, Bruce self-published a book entitled "Avian Awakening; Discovering the Birds of New England," which features photographs and anecdotes about his experiences covering various birding destinations within New England.  Since then he's expanded his photography outings to include butterflies, dragonflies, wildflowers, and wildlife in general.     In this presentation, Bruce will talk about his adventures during his reawakening.  The presentation will include two multimedia slide shows featuring his work and the music of the Boston String Quartet.  Bruce will demonstrate the actual photographic equipment he uses as part of the talk.  He will also have books available for purchase and signing following the presentation.   This event is free and open to the public; donations welcome. No need to pre-register, but we wouldn't mind if you let us know you're planning to attend. Parking is limited at True North.  Please contact us if you are interested in ridesharing from a convenient location in Hubbardston center. hubbardstonnatureclub@yahoo.com
